Euphyllia Coral Care Guide

Coral reef tank with corals

Euphyllia is a genus of LPS coral that includes popular species like hammer, torch, and frogspawn coral, known for their swaying, tentacle-like polyps and relatively forgiving care.

Lighting

Euphyllia does well under moderate reef lighting, generally needing less intensity than SPS corals like Acropora, making it a good next step after soft corals.

Water Flow

Gentle to moderate, indirect flow suits Euphyllia’s swaying polyps best — flow that’s too strong can prevent proper extension and stress the coral.

Placement

Euphyllia has long sweeper tentacles that can sting neighboring coral at night, so give it generous spacing from other colonies when placing it in your reef tank.

Water Chemistry

Stable calcium, alkalinity, and magnesium levels matter for Euphyllia, though it’s more tolerant of minor swings than more sensitive SPS corals — see our Complete Guide to Coral Reef Tanks for dosing basics.
