Platies are one of the most beginner-friendly livebearers available, tolerant of a range of water conditions and available in a huge variety of colors and patterns.
Tank Setup
Platies do well in a planted community tank of 10 gallons or more, with plenty of swimming space and some cover for fry if you plan to breed.
Diet
Platies are omnivorous and thrive on a varied diet of flakes, pellets, and occasional vegetable matter like blanched zucchini.
Breeding
Like guppies, platies are livebearers and will breed readily in a community tank without any special intervention, sometimes producing fry faster than expected.
Tank Mates
Platies are peaceful and pair well with mollies, swordtails, corydoras catfish, and most other calm community species.
